Edward Follett reels were made in the 1880’s and 1890’s. His first reels were made in the early 1880’s and was his bass and trout fly reel. They mere sold through W. & J.M. Aikenhead in Rochester, NY. He received a patent for his automatic fishing rod and reel design on November 19, 1889. The patent was assigned to Charles White and Oliver Ross. The automatic reel was made by White-Ross Mfg. Co. in Carlisle, PA. Oliver Ross updated the Follett patent and assigned it to White-Ross Mfg. Co. Ross received his patent on February 2, 1892. The automatic rod and reel was eventually made by Montague City Rod Co.
