Ron Kusse Fly Reels – Washingtonville, NY

Ron Kusse fly reels are high quality fly reels made for him by Kineya in Kyoto, Japan. Later, reels were made for him in the USA and so marked. Ron Kusse was Vice President of the H.L. Leonard Rod Company from 1972 to 1981. After he left Leonard, he began making fly rods under his own name. He made high quality fly rods up until his death on March 6, 2016.

In the early 2000’s, Ron decided that he needed a line of quality fly reels to go along with his fly rods. Having worked for Leonard, he knew of their quality reel models that were made in the past that would complement his rods. They are the German silver and bronze bi-metal and the William Mills & Son model No. 44 and No. 50 reels. Kineya of Kyoto, Japan made these 3 reel models for Ron. The reels are marked “The Leonard Mills Reel” and “Ron Kusse, Maker.” Later, reels were made for him in the USA and so marked.
