Garland Bros. cork-head lures are famous because they introduced a novel feature in plug design by using cork as part of the lure body. The front one-quarter of the lure is made of cork and over-painted. The darter style Cork-Head Frog and the bulbous Cork-Head Minnow shown below are the two variations seen with this feature. Garland made these lures in the early 1930’s. The darter style lures have painted eyes and the minnow lures have painted tack eyes. In the late 1930’s, Garland also made a number of other wooden lures that did not have the cork heads and had painted eyes. Garland is considered one of the great Central Florida Lure Makers.
